The Opportunity
A Civil Engineer is responsible for a variety of field-centric duties including observing construction activities, testing material properties, and providing engineering consulting on projects of increasing complexity. You will play a key role in assisting our clients to successfully execute their projects. As a Civil Engineer, you will work under the direct supervision of registered Professional Engineers and other industry experts.
You will be given autonomy to execute in-depth evaluations, troubleshoot complex issues, and make recommendations with the support of the Project Managers.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed on-site reviews to assess construction progress, evaluate contractor adherence to project specifications, identify potential challenges, perform specialized tests on construction materials to verify quality standards are consistently met, analyze data and project information, and apply your expertise and training to make well-informed recommendations to help keep projects on track.
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing your complex field observations, precise test results, and sophisticated analysis of construction processes.
- Provide mentorship to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Use your problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex construction challenges.
Requirements
- Competency in using computer operating systems and MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and supervisors, conveying technical information clearly.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, manage workloads, maintain accurate records, and document field observations, safety concerns, and problem resolutions.
- Effective interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and team members, fostering positive relationships, with a customer-centric approach.
- Ability to understand and adapt to change and react productively to interruptions and changing conditions.
- Basic construction competencies, including interpreting surface features, landmarks, surveys, maps, aerial photos, and geologic maps; understanding construction stakes and utility markings.
- General aptitude for identifying and resolving technical problems in the field using critical thinking and logical reasoning.
- Demonstrates ethical conduct, maintains confidentiality, ensures safety, and adheres to safety protocols.
- Physical ability to lift (up to 50 lbs), walk on uneven ground, carry equipment, work in various weather conditions, and travel to different locations.
