Construction Engineer

Position Summary

This position is for a full‑time Construction Engineer in our Construction Services Group with office locations in Saginaw, St. Johns, East Lansing, Dundee, and Bingham Farms.

• Acts as client, contractor, and project manager liaison for the construction of municipal and MDOT infrastructure projects.
• Observes construction work in progress to ensure conformance with specifications, examining workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards, and maintains detailed records of work performed by contractors.
• Communicates directly with clients and owners, holds and attends meetings, reviews shop drawings, performs quantity take‑offs, and generates preliminary estimates of cost.
• Performs office technician duties such as reviewing certified payrolls, reviewing IDRs for compliance to standards, generating pay estimates and contract modifications.
• Familiarity with MDOT specifications, standard plans, and work practice is preferred.
• Conducts material testing related to grout inspection and testing, HMA sampling, concrete sampling and testing, aggregate sampling, mechanical testing of aggregates, and compaction testing for granular, aggregate, clay, and HMA materials.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• E.I.T. or P.E., a plus
• Construction inspection experience, preferably in the areas of municipal infrastructure, MDOT road, and bridge construction
• Valid driver’s license
