Overview
Under general direction of nursing leadership, the Clinical Supervisor RN position is responsible for serving as a clinical resource and unit expert for staff. This position links nursing leadership with nursing care through the application of organizational and nursing service policies, procedures, and care delivery model. The Clinical Supervisor RN uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements to guide leadership and practice.
The Clinical Supervisor RN attains knowledge and competence reflective of current nursing practice; promotes innovation and futuristic thinking by incorporating evidence-based practice and research findings.
- Assess acuity as basis for maintaining adequate staffing levels for designated shift and for on-coming shift. Work in collaboration with patient placement to assign appropriate patient placements on designated shift (admissions and transfers).
- Monitor medical wide activity via reports, rounds, patient acuity, number and type of admissions and other forms of communication.
- Problem solve, evaluate and decide on course of action and alert additional resources as needed. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate educational programs for orientation, staff development, and continued growth of all employees within the department. Counsel staff as needed. Maintain lines of communication with peers, subordinates, and superiors.
- Take an active role in regular nursing management meetings to influence the direction of nursing service.
- Actively lead or participate in appropriate meetings.
- Plan and develop new programs and facility renovations as appropriate.
- Participate on or lead nursing service committees as appointed by VP Nursing/Division Manager.
- Participate on medical staff committees as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission and Michigan Department of Public Health standards and all other regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with physicians, all levels of nursing management and other departmental personnel in planning for coordinated services to the patient including inpatient, outpatient activity and general oversight of patients, staff and facilities in the absence of the administrative team.

- Credential: ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Equivalent

- Education:
ASSOC - Equivalent
Experience:
Bachelor degree in nursing at time of hire or transfer to position preferred. - Education Specialization:

- Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures normally acquired through 2 years' experience in a Medical Center or similar setting.
- Knowledge of nursing leadership normally acquired through 1 year in a Medical Center or similar setting with supervision, charge nurse, project implementation, professional development program, shared governance leadership, or equivalent.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to convey ideas clearly.
