Summary

Up to 14K sign on bonus for qualified candidates.

The Registered Nurse (RN) functions primarily in direct patient care and demonstrates "competent" clinical practice. The RN triages patients, obtains patient history and vital signs, and assesses patients. The RN acts independently to initiate immediate care in the absence of a physician in life‑threatening situations. The RN provides care for acutely ill as well as non‑acute patients, performs procedures, assists physicians, provides comfort, and gives discharge instructions.

The RN answers ambulance radios and gives orders for pre‑hospital care, works with sophisticated equipment, and handles patients in a frequently stressful environment.

Responsibilities

(25%) Performs nursing assessments, intervenes appropriately, and participates in care planning.

(25%) Regularly assesses patients/clients needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed and accepted standards of practice.

(20%) Processes physician/service orders accurately, completely, and in a timely manner, follows up on medication changes and clarifications.

(15%) Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or facilitates changes to improve patient care.

(15%) Actively participates in updating/revising treatment plan in collaboration with other team members.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Uses physical assessment techniques to identify patients’ problems and care needs.
  • Recognizes limitations and seeks out appropriate resources.
  • Demonstrates competence in airway management, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, blood gas analysis, venipuncture.
  • Reassesses patients’ health status and identifies significant changes.
  • Individualizes plan of care.
  • Coordinates prescribed plans and orders with the health‑care team.
  • Communicates pertinent aspects of care to patient, family, or other health‑care workers.
  • Initiates home‑health referrals when appropriate.
  • Sets priorities and implements nursing measures aligned with plan and standard of care.
  • Recognizes change in patients’ condition and takes action to manage symptoms.
  • Demonstrates respect for patients’ dignity and privacy.
  • Documents nursing intervention and patient response.
  • Maintains a safe patient environment and prevents risk situations.
  • Provides patient/family education and documents instructions given.
  • Has effective interpersonal skills with customers.
  • Assists peers in patient‑care activities.
  • Recognizes stress in others and uses positive coping techniques.
  • Is accountable in following medical‑center policy and procedures and ensures attendance.
  • Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows.
Certifications and Licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – within 3 months of hire or transfer.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) – credential required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • TEAM Advanced – Techniques for Effective Aggression Management – within 6 months of hire or transfer.
Required Education
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required;
    Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience, Training, and Skills
  • Knowledge of nursing skills normally acquired through at least 2 years of experience in a medical‑center or similar setting.
  • Mandatory tuberculosis testing required; mandatory OSHA training required annually.
Physical / Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief and death.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex.
  • Ability to move freely throughout the facility and perform job functions.
  • Visual and hearing acuity with or without assistance.
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking; occasional kneeling or crouching.
  • Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; follows My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
  • Capacity to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert.
  • Dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, and repeated movements.
  • Physical demand level: medium; lift 20–50 lb. 0‑33% of day; 20 lb. 34‑66%; 10 lb. 67‑100% of day.
