Skilled Trades -Licensed Electrician, Plumber, or Mechanic

Summary

This position repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances, using hand tools and testing instruments to supply electrical power for lighting and equipment operations at the Medical Center.

• Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits and equipment, as well as distribution panel.
• Repairs electrical circuits and equipment. Dismantles electrical machinery. Replaces faulty or defective mechanical and electrical parts. Restores electrical systems.
• Installs new wiring and electrical machinery. Studies blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout location, and specifications of items to be installed.
• Estimates quantities of materials needed and prepares requisition.

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs minor carpentry, plastering and painting in connection with electrical work.
• May perform work other than electrical in maintenance and construction.
• Instructs and/or helps less experienced maintenance personnel as required and/or directed.
• Copes with and handles discrepancies and variations from regular system or procedure, which may occasionally arise.
• Maintains records and performs other duties as required including, but not limited to, snow/ice removal and grounds maintenance.
• Must have ability to work alone or with others.

  SKILLS:
  
  Knowledge of electrical construction, blueprint reading, electricity, mathematics and physics as normally acquired through completion of trade or vocational school.
• State of Michigan Journeyman License.
• Must have knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and local regulations.
• Knowledge of solid state, power panel control.
• Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually.
• Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

• Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
• Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
• Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).
• Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
• Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
• Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
• Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently lift 20-66% of the workday, and constantly lift 10 lbs., with walking/standing/pushing/pulling as applicable.
