Field Biologist (Field Based) – ERM
We are seeking a part‑time (15+ hours per week) limited‑term Field Biologist to conduct nesting bird surveys and survey special status species across multiple sites in California, including Sacramento, San Jose, Livermore, Oakland, Fresno Area, Pasadena, Santa Clarita, Woodier, Ontario (LA County), Riverside, Temecula, and Murrieta (Riverside County).
Responsibilities- Conduct pre‑construction nesting bird and other special status species surveys and construction monitoring across the client’s territory.
- Work independently in remote locations.
- Coordinate with construction crews and provide advice to maintain compliance with client requirements.
- Collect electronic data and handheld/sub‑meter GPS data.
- Produce daily reports and compile survey reports.
- Comply with ERM’s rigorous safety program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- At least 2+ years of avian biology and special status species experience, including expertise in one or more of the following:
Southwestern Willow Fly Catcher, Burrowing Owl, Spotted Owl, Eagles/Raptors, Least Bell’s Vireo, California Gnatcatcher, Yosemite Toad, CA Red‑Legged Frog, Yellow‑Legged Frog subspecies, Pacific Fisher, San Bernardino Kangaroo Rat, Stephen’s Kangaroo Rat, Western Pond Turtle, or Desert Tortoise. - Familiarity with nesting bird survey protocols and bird identification skills.
- Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather and challenging terrain.
- Knowledge of sub‑meter GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Desire to work in the field for extended periods and maintain a positive attitude.
- Willingness and ability to travel with overnight stays possible.
- Demonstrated independent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Valid driver's license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle.
- Fluency in English and Spanish highly preferred.

BenefitsBenefits eligibility is limited to regular employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Fixed‑term employees (including Flexforce) who work 20+ hours per week are eligible for a limited benefits package. Casual employees are not benefits eligible.
PayAnnual base pay is estimated at $73,000 – $80,000 ($35.09 – $38.46 per hour). Pay may vary based on education, experience, geography, and other factors. Bonus pay may not be available for casual or fixed‑term employees.
