NMC is recruiting an Operating Room Aide. The position is full‑time (80 hours bi‑weekly), generally M‑F 8a‑4:30p. Job Summary

The Operating Room Aide works as an integral part of the healthcare team, maintaining a safe environment for quality patient care under the direct daily supervision of the Operating Room Charge Nurse.

Prerequisites

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. VT Licensed Nursing Assistance license preferred.
Experience: One year in the medical field preferred but not mandatory.
Other

Skills:

Basic computer and typing skills; excellent customer service; ability to adapt care to patients of all ages; knowledge of developmental principles and ability to assess patient status for age‑specific needs.
Certification: BLS required.

Reports To: Director of Surgical Services
Other Contacts: Surgeons and providers, Surgical Services staff, Hospital personnel, Patients, Patient families

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Lift and transport patients up to 25 lb; handle heavy equipment; reach, bend, stoop, kneel.
Working Conditions: Possible exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; universal precautions required; exposure to unpleasant elements and a stressful, high‑demands environment.
Required Protective Equipment: Face and eye protection, non‑sterile gloves, and other PPE as necessary.

Essential Functions

Perform EKGs and blood draws for pre‑operative testing; assist RN staff and the vascular access team with patient transportation and PICC line placement.

Check anesthesia machines daily before the OR schedule; report issues to the Charge Nurse; maintain supply levels in anesthesia and specialty carts.

Transport stretchers and beds to operating rooms as needed.

Deliver specimens to laboratory promptly.

Create patient preference cards; pick cases and assemble case carts for future and same‑day add‑on cases.

Maintain supplies and organization of equipment and PPE in the OR and equipment rooms; keep A‑line and central line kits stocked and linen and fluids ready in the warmers.

Assist with cleaning operating rooms after each case per infection control guidelines; handle OR turnover and equipment management to ensure efficient flow.

Provide assistance in other Surgical Services areas (Ambulatory, Central Sterile) when the OR schedule allows.
