Licensed Nursing Assistant



Job Summary

The LNA plans and implements assigned patient care in collaboration with the nursing staff on the unit. The LNA provides direct patient care for patients of all age groups under a wide variety of circumstances, including patient sitting/care companion and documents patient information. The LNA will also provide support on the assigned unit that may include reception and clerical functions while interacting professionally with staff to facilitate a healing environment for staff, patients, families and visitors.

After training the LNA will perform EKG's and phlebotomy procedures as necessary.

Pre-requisites

Education: High school graduate or equivalent with a current licensure as a Licensed Nursing Assistant in the State of Vermont.

Experience: Experience as a LNA in a hospital setting preferred. Computer experience required. Phlebotomy and ECG experience preferred.

Certifications: BLS required

Other: Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Communicates clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing. Has the ability to organize and prioritize multiple competing demands. Has an approachable, friendly demeanor.

Relationships

Reports To: Clinical Nurse Supervisor;
Director of Inpatient Services

Other Contacts: Staff on the unit, nursing personnel, Shift Administrators, Providers and their office staff, patients and patient’s families, public, police and other forensic staff and other hospital employees

Scope

Machinery or Equipment Used: All basic office and patient care/monitoring equipment

Physical Demands: Lifts, positions and/or transfers patients; pushes, moves and lifts heavy equipment/supplies; considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching; prolonged extensive or considerable standing/walking; manual dexterity in using office equipment

Working Conditions: Exposure to crisis or hostile situations, infectious diseases/blood borne pathogens, and/or unpleasant elements of acute injuries from traumatic accidents as well as working with family members in their time of stress. Possible stress from emergency situation and multiple interruptions

Required Protective Equipment: All PPE per policy as situation and patient situation dictates
