Overview
This position is part of the Office of Community Development-Home Improvement Program within the Department of Human Services.
The starting salary range will be between $44,699.20 - $56,222.40 annually depending on the candidate's qualifications as well as budgetary considerations. - Serve as the primary point of contact for program applicants, providing information, answering questions, and guiding them through the application process.
- Collect, review, and verify applicant documentation to determine eligibility for grant programs in accordance with HUD guidelines.
- Conduct detailed income verification for entire households, ensuring compliance with mandated requirements.
- Perform investigative tasks such as household composition verification, deed and title searches, and other documentation checks.
- Communicate effectively and patiently with applicants, including elderly or disabled individuals, offering support and assistance throughout the process.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with program standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and finalize applicant eligibility.
- Utilize basic accounting skills and familiarity with income verification to support accurate determinations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required. Candidates with a combination of education and experience will also be considered. Basic accounting and financial knowledge is essential. Experience in customer service—particularly working with older adults or individuals with disabilities—is preferred.
A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant, considering the recency and relevance of education and experience, answers to supplemental questions, results of employment references, and other appropriate information. The committee will admit to the interview only those who possess the most job-related qualifications and may establish additional criteria beyond the minimum qualifications. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade;
a qualifying grade of 70 or more is required to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews, an email will be sent with instructions on completing and submitting a Conviction Questionnaire, which must be completed within 3 days.
The five top-ranking candidates, based on final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
