Job Overview
Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre‑K and K‑12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired, or deafblind. FSDB provides comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students.
Responsibilities- Assists classroom teacher with instruction, behavior management, and recordkeeping.
- Plans and prepares educational materials and field trips.
- Sustains the instructional momentum of the program in the teacher’s absence.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- 60 college semester hours from an accredited institution, Associate of Arts or higher, or high school diploma with a Para Pro Assessment score of 464 or higher.
- Knowledge of the educational needs of deaf/hard‑of‑hearing and blind/visually‑impaired students.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records; implement individual programs; plan and prepare educational materials.
- Ability to provide social‑and daily‑living skills instruction (e.g., personal hygiene, toileting).
- Operating Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction certification within 90 days of appointment.
- Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language within one year of hire.
- CPR and CPR certification.
Applicants selected for hire will be required to attain advanced proficiency in sign language within one year of hire.
Hiring Salary10‑month position: $29,874.00 – $37,374.00 annually (paid biweekly over 26 pays). Base $29,874.00;
Associate’s degree add $1,500.00;
Bachelor’s add $3,000.00;
Master’s add $4,500.00;
Additional verified full‑time experience add $150.00 per year.
Monday–Thursday 6:30 am to 3:30 pm and Friday 6:30 am–1:00 pm.
