The Senior Store Manager (SSM) is responsible for, but not limited to, managing a retail store as its home store and overseeing 1-2 additional stores in a geographic area. The incumbent develops the skills of their management team by providing oversight and training to store management, with emphasis on customer service, revenue goals, and performance management. This position administers policies and procedures under the direction of the VP of Retail and maintains growth and revenue in the assigned area.
Essential duties focus on both the home store and 1-2 stores for which this position is responsible and include, but are not limited to:
- Provide quality leadership for Goodwill's internal and external customers in all assigned tasks, upholding Goodwill's mission.
- Practice constructive problem solving, facilitate creative improvements, and motivate others.
- Display strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effectively handle change management.
- Hire, train, develop, coach, appraise performance, reward, and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems; enforce and communicate Goodwill policies; report concerns to the General Manager and/or HR.
- Ensure safe working conditions and practices; report safety concerns to the Risk Manager.
- Maintain store standards in customer service, merchandise presentation, production, housekeeping, and cash handling.
- Resolve issues identified in auditing; ensure production goals and revenue goals are met; maximize floor layout for sales per square foot; maintain inventory levels to meet goals.
- Perform duties as Store Manager for the home store; oversee 2-3 stores and supervise store managers.
- Train and develop store management and oversee training and evaluation of store employees; oversee hiring, performance management, disciplinary action, and termination decisions.
- Ensure merchandise content, presentation, and visual standards are met; monitor sales and reporting; administer budgets for the home store and assigned stores.
- Monitor quality standards across customer service, safety, store display, and housekeeping; maintain reports and payroll budgets; foster open communication channels.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Five years of retail experience with at least two years in a managerial role.
- Ability to travel up to 75%; valid Driver's License and state auto insurance.
- Hours may vary including holidays, evenings, and weekends.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel); proficient with standard office equipment and POS systems.
- Proven leadership skills including business acumen, supervision, creativity, adaptability, interviewing and selection, organization, planning, performance management, data analysis, and reporting.
- Effective verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.
- Ability to learn, retain, and apply production and procedures information; ability to train managers on the organization’s production system.
- Ability to work without supervision.
- High School or GED required. Bachelor's Degree or advanced education in retail management or similar concentration preferred.
Excellent communication and organizational skills; able to interact professionally in a fast-paced, customer-service environment; willingness to learn, adapt, and be a team player in the changing landscape of Internet marketing; customer-oriented and self-starter; proficient with Excel; capable of basic math; able to lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; on-call availability weekends and holidays; valid driver's license required.
