Electrical Design Engineer (Power Systems)
Nidec Mobility America Corporation (NMOA) seeks a professionally focused Electrical Design Engineer (Power Products/Systems) for our St. Charles, IL operations.
As a world leader in sensing and control technology, we control the most discrete functions within an automobile – from seat switches, power window switches, and instrument panel controls, towards complex user interfaces. NMOA is directly involved with automotive OEM’s and holds a leadership position within Nidec for product development with global vehicle makers.
Responsibilities- Creates new electronic/electromechanical Power Product designs based on Automotive Tier I Customer requests or internal development.
- Understands customer procedures and implements or adapts development to meet those requirements.
- Implements new designs into production by creating designs and managing the entire development process.
- Assists the Quality Warranty Department in analyzing warranty and other customer returns.
- Prepares product or system layout and detailed schematics/drawings as required.
- Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Performs power systems circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, and circuit simulation to meet customer requirements.
- Completes power dissipation calculations, worst‑case analysis (including component tolerances, variation over temperature and life), and design failure mode effect analysis for electrical designs to meet customer requirements.
- Interacts with suppliers for quotes, specifications and samples.
- Updates/maintains current products through research and recommendation for improvement design opportunities of electronic modules and components. Verifies that all specifications are met.
- Works in conjunction with leadership to develop long‑range and short‑range self‑development goals.
- Supports/implements the IATF
16949 Quality Management System; and ISO
14001 Environmental Policy as it pertains to work activities.
- 5+ years with Power Product design experience (automotive electrical design experience highly valued).
- Electrical Design in Power Systems (Experience with DC‑DC Converters/DC‑AC Inverters highly desired). High voltage experience (>60 V) is a plus.
- Experience with modeling CAD tools such as LTSpice or PSpice, Mathcad, and Altium.
- Experience with analog, digital, and power systems circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, and circuit simulation.
- Ability to do power dissipation calculation, worst‑case tolerance analysis, and design failure mode effect analysis.
- Electronics prototype construction and design verification testing. Validation testing experience is a plus.
- EMC compliance and design verification testing and review. EMC/EMI knowledge is a plus.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Confluence and JIRA is a plus.
- The individual must have a strong attention to detail and be a strong problem solver. Experience with 8‑D problem solving method (or similar) is a plus.
- The individual must be innovative and accountable for actions.
- Effective Time Management required with strong technical communication skills.
- Experience with automotive electronics hardware / power product design requirements highly preferred.
- 10% (up to a few days assignment in the Midwest 2-3 times annually for customer interface).
