Business Development Manager - Fulfillment Services

The Business Development Manager’s primary responsibility is generating and cultivating new business opportunities that align with DM’s 3rd‑party fulfillment services and solutions. The role requires an emphasis on lead generation activities and the ability to develop and execute a strategy for identifying best‑fit clients. Additionally, the Business Development Manager is responsible for proposal development, relationship management, and building DM brand recognition in the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Generation: Identify and create new business opportunities with best‑fit fulfillment clients who align with DM’s target markets. Utilize existing relationships and leverage industry knowledge to generate high‑quality leads.
  • Client Profiling: Create thorough profiles for potential fulfillment clients, ensuring all relevant information is entered into the CRM system for tracking and management.
  • Solution Presentation & Proposal Development: Collaborate with sales and marketing to develop tailored presentations and proposals that meet client needs, ensuring a smooth transition from lead generation to closed deals.
  • Client Transition: Once a lead becomes an active DM client, transition the relationship to the Implementation team, Client Success Managers, and Account Managers for ongoing management and support.
  • Assist Account Managers: Support the Account Management team and Client Success Managers in handling larger, more complex clients or partnerships, providing strategic input to ensure growth and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Leadership Team: Work closely with the VP of Client Engagement, the Director of Client Engagement, and the Director of Operations.
  • Target Market Focus: Develop and implement strategies to target specific vertical markets, industries, and product categories that align with DM’s service offerings and growth objectives.
  • Brand Awareness & Promotion: Drive efforts for brand recognition and industry positioning through various channels, including:
    • Trade organizations
    • Cultivating industry relationships and networking
    • Trade publications
    • Development of selling tools and marketing materials
    • Industry‑specific events and social media campaigns

Strategic Partnerships & Industry Presence:

  • Build Strategic Partnerships: Establish relationships with key partners, consultants, and industry leaders to enhance DM’s presence in the market.
  • Networking & Industry Events: Represent DM at industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to generate awareness and create potential lead opportunities.
  • Develop & Implement Channel Strategies: Develop and execute strategies to build new sales channels, creating additional revenue streams and business opportunities.

Continuous Market Intelligence & Knowledge Development:

  • Industry Expertise: Maintain a high level of expertise in the industry, staying up to date with trends, competitive landscape, major organizations, and best practices.
  • Client Engagement: Regularly engage with prospective clients to understand their needs and align DM’s offerings with their business objectives.

Skill Sets & Functions:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in business (preferred).
  • Experience: 5 years of e‑commerce fulfillment experience with a clear understanding of business development in omni‑channel fulfillment.
  • Travel Requirements: The position requires regular travel to meet prospects and attend industry events/trade shows across the U.S. Travel may be done in collaboration with SVP Sales, VP Client Engagement, Strategic Account Managers, or Operations team members.
  • Industry Expertise: Ongoing maintenance of expert‑level knowledge of the industry, including trends, competitive landscape, and best practices.
  • Executive Engagement: Ability to engage and develop relationships with executive‑level clients and business owners.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Strong entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and solutions‑oriented approach.
