Position Overview
Adjunct Instructor in Social and Behavioral Sciences (Public Health, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or Sociology). Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising students, and engaging in scholarly activities. Reports to the dean and collaborates with faculty to develop curriculum.
Key Responsibilities- Teach course sessions in an organized manner, ensuring clear communication of learning goals and assessment methods.
- Develop adaptive thinking and problem‑solving skills through examples, illustrations, and guided discussion.
- Provide feedback on tests and assignments, and use assessment results to offer additional learning opportunities.
- Maintain a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment in accordance with university policies.
- Distribute syllabi by the first class meeting and notify students of any substantial changes.
- Ensure students receive timely assistance with course assignments and assessments.
- Administer exams or other evaluative activities during scheduled final exam time.
- Determine final grades following methods prescribed in syllabi.
- Mentor students in volunteer opportunities, research, curriculum enhancements, tutoring, resume building, leadership, and ethical life skills.
- Engage in scholarly activities and creative endeavors that support the university’s academic mission.
- Supervise laboratories, independent study activities, and off‑campus learning such as practicums and internships.
- Participate in shared governance, volunteer for university events, and recruit.
- Collaborate with colleagues to exhibit interpersonal effectiveness and coordinate work behavior.
Design, develop, and teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars. Supervise laboratories and co‑curriculum activities.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, and CAMS.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to think critically, solve problems independently, and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Organizational skills and adaptability to changing instructional scenarios.
