External Mortgage Loan Officer

Vantage Credit Union is seeking a highly motivated External Mortgage Loan Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will interview members applying for residential mortgages, perform preliminary analysis of applications, prepare and send initial disclosures, and maintain knowledge of underwriting criteria and pricing in accordance with FNMA and FHLHC guidelines.

• Interview members applying for residential mortgages to ensure all pertinent information and data are collected.
• Perform preliminary analysis of mortgage applications to determine member eligibility for the loan at the time of application.
• Prepare and send initial disclosures to members so that government regulations are met and members are informed.
• Maintain knowledge of underwriting criteria, pricing, and FNMA and FHLMC underwriting guidelines.
• Network with external business referral partners to generate leads.
• Contact provided trigger leads list daily.

• Five years of increasingly responsible experience in mortgage lending, familiar with loan origination functions.
• Knowledge of all credit union services and ability to cross‑sell them to members.
• Ability to retain and expand external business partners for referral sources.

• Excellent oral, written, and listening skills.
• Ability to handle pressure, communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, and work on several projects simultaneously to meet required objectives.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and commitment to courteous service to members.

• Maintain professional state licensing requirements in compliance with the federal Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act).
• A college degree in a business‑related field or equivalent five years of financial institution experience in mortgage lending is required.
• Experience with Encompass software is highly recommended.
• Attendance of credit union industry seminars, workshops, and conventions is required.

• Occasional standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Occasional travel or moving between office locations within the headquarters building.
• Occasional lifting, moving, or adjusting objects up to 20 pounds.
• Constant communication with others through verbal, email, and chat, requiring consistent use of a keyboard and mouse or other electronic device.
• Work is in a commercially reasonable temperature‑controlled environment.
• Occasional temporary exterior site reviews possibly involving wind, rain, or snow.
