Overview
POLICE OFFICER / POLICE role rles County Government. This is a twelve-hour shift position.
St. Charles County Police Department will be conducting Police Officer Testing to fill current vacancies.
Responsibilities- Responds to calls for service, takes information, writes incident reports, and initiates action applicable to the situation.
- Patrols assigned areas to deter criminal action.
- Makes traffic stops and issues moving and non-moving violations.
- Investigates crimes or complaints and makes custodial arrests.
- Attends court hearings and testifies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Certifications:
Class A certification under Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) according to RSMO 590 prior to appointment. Those enrolled in an academy who are 90 days or less from graduation may apply and test for the Police Officer position. - Must have a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and be free from (and have no pending) felony convictions or misdemeanors related to domestic violence.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Must pass all examination components. At hire, candidates must pass drug screening, comprehensive physical/medical examination, comprehensive background investigation/polygraph/psychological evaluation (psychological evaluation may be waived for current County employees who have previously completed one). - Requires courteous, effective oral and written communication skills, sometimes under adverse conditions.
- Requires physical ability to perform foot pursuits and subdue resisting suspects.
- Requires skill in operating law enforcement equipment including firearms and in-car computer systems.
- Requires knowledge of federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to law enforcement.

Applicants must pass each component to move to the next. Applicants who fail any portion may reapply and test at the next advertised testing process. Scores determine final ratings for the Eligibility List.
Eligibility List- Candidates must meet all qualifications and pass all examination components to be added to the Eligibility List.
- Each component is weighted:
Oral Board Interview – 55%, Written Exam – 45%, Physical Agility – Pass/Fail. - Eligibility lasts one year unless canceled or procedures are revised.
- The Eligibility List may be used to fill similar positions. Candidates found to have histories incompatible with standards may be removed from the list with notification.
- Monday, October 27, 2025 – Morning Testing
- Monday, November 17, 2025 – Morning Testing
