About Us The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) is committed to maintaining the health and well-being of our students and staff. We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive health care, support the educational process, and ensure a safe and healthy environment within our schools.

Job Summary The Registered Nurse supports the educational process by managing health care needs, developing health plans, ensuring compliance with health regulations, providing immediate care, serving as a health resource, and conducting health screenings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health Screenings:
    Administer and coordinate health screenings such as vision, hearing, and blood pressure assessments.
  • Patient Assessment:
    Assess and manage student health issues, including chronic conditions and emergencies.
  • Health & Safety Issues:
    Identify and address safety and health concerns, including abuse, and refer students for further treatment as needed.
  • Data Collection:
    Collect and document health data to support assessments and improve nursing practices.
  • Communication:
    Report health and safety issues to the Nurse Coordinator and School Administrators.
  • Health Plans:
    Develop and implement Individual Health Plans to address students’ health needs.
  • Record Maintenance:
    Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Education & Training:
    Provide health education and care, including medication administration and specialized treatments.
  • Emergency Response:
    Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate care.
  • Research:
    Research and stay updated on health topics to enhance knowledge and practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience:

    Relevant job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred.
  • Skills:

    Ability to manage health care projects, use relevant software, and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge:
    Understanding of health standards, regulations, and practices.
  • Abilities:
    Ability to handle diverse health situations, maintain confidentiality, and work with various stakeholders.

Work Environment

  • Physical Demands:
    Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing. Frequent stooping, kneeling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally requires 25% sitting, 25% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed in conditions with some exposure to risk of injury or illness.

  • Documentation:
    Prepare written materials such as health records and reports to document student progress.
  • Incident Reporting:
    Report incidents and emergencies to maintain safety and adhere to policies.
  • Inquiry Response:
    Respond to inquiries from various sources to resolve issues and provide information.
  • Additional Duties:
    Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
