The ASSOCIATE COUNTY COUNSELOR works for the County Counsel’s Office and represents the County in litigation, prosecutes ordinance and code violations within the municipal division and the Circuit Court, and provides legal advice and opinions to County officials and employees under the supervision of the County Counselor.
QualificationsOpen to licensed attorneys holding a valid license to practice law only.
SalaryAnnual salary range: $ - $.
Responsibilities- Gather information, conduct legal research, and prepare documents for legal opinions, actions, and related matters on behalf of the County.
- Prepare motions, pleadings, memoranda, briefs, discovery documents, and other court filings.
- Defend claims and complaints against the County, recommend actions, and take necessary actions, including representing the County in trial and appellate proceedings in county, state, federal and administrative tribunals.
- Conduct discovery, examination of witnesses, cross‑examinations, gather documents, compile case information, file pre‑trial and post‑trial motions, and litigate appeals.
- Represent County departments in mediations and settlement negotiations.
