Job Purpose
The concrete paving mechanic mobilizes paving equipment, works alongside paving equipment during production, and maintains equipment during non-production periods. The concrete paving mechanic performs tasks involving physical labor on concrete paving equipment including concrete pavers, placers, texture cure machines, trimmers, and other specialty equipment related to concrete paving operations. This is typically a fast-paced environment with long hours. Opportunities for advancement.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Mobilize concrete paving equipment includes but is not limited to loading and unloading of equipment on the jobsite and setup of equipment to project specifications
- Support paving operations including working alongside equipment to ensure machines are operating properly and maintaining appropriate concrete grade and edge tolerances.
- Maintaining concrete paving equipment includes but is not limited to identifying, diagnosing, and fixing hydraulic and electrical issues, replacing hoses, chipping concrete scale, fixing leaks, etc. This includes shop and field repairs and service.
- Diesel engine, electrical, hydraulic, powertrain, and welding on equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and repair of equipment as required.
- Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.
- Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Paving Equipment Superintendent, Director of Concrete Operations, Safety Director, or HR Manager.
Qualifications

- Must have a positive, can-do attitude.
- Technical College or High School Diploma.
- Experience with diesel engines, electrical, hydraulics, powertrain, and welding is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulics, and powertrain troubleshooting.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record (CDL is preferred).
- Must be able to pass a Federal background check to enter secure facilities including airports, military installations, and railroad yards.
- Must be self‑motivated and able to work independently or in a small group.
- Must provide steel toe boots (safety vest, glasses and hard‑hat provided).
- Must provide hand tools and sockets up to 2" (larger hand, electric and pneumatic tools provided).
- Civil construction industry experience is a plus.
Other Functions
- Safety support and planning work with Health and Safety Personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working conditions
- Must be willing to work in small groups. Most tasks are too large for a single person and may take multiple days to complete.
- Must be willing to travel as MW paving projects are not always located near MW headquarters. (Millstone Weber currently has a monetary travel incentive program established)
- Must be willing to work days or nights, and some Saturdays. Concrete paving is commonly performed during nighttime operations to allow for proper traffic control on highway projects and during times of high daytime temperatures.
- Must be willing to operate equipment when required.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and concrete.

- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
- Work in extreme all‑weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances; frequently climb on/off equipment; climb ladders frequently.
- Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding and pulling.
- Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals.
- Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand and sit for extended time; and use hand tools.
