Field Maintenance Worker - Sewer Division

Base pay: $26.63 /hr – $26.63 /hr. Salary is based on your skills and experience. Your actual pay will be discussed with your recruiter.

- Properly inspect and maintain heavy construction equipment, vehicles, tools, and supplies.
- Operate construction equipment and vehicles; specialized CCTV and cleaning/jetting equipment for sewer lines; hand and power tools.
- Excavate, expose, and repair sewer infrastructure and appurtenances via manual or mechanical methods.
- Maintain knowledge of safety standards and procedures, including confined space and trench and excavation safety.
- Participate in rotating on‑call schedule and work overtime as required for civil emergencies, severe weather, special events, and after‑hour call‑outs.
- Remove trash and obstructions that may block or interfere with sewerage or storm water flow.
- Clean and remove debris from storm and sanitary sewer systems, manholes, inlets, and culverts.
- Enter utility structures, manholes, and inlets, crawl through or “lam and” sewers to locate damage or obstructions.
- Locate, excavate, and expose buried manholes and underground sewer infrastructure.
- Assist in inspection of sewer infrastructure for damage detection and problem resolution; operate sewer camera equipment.
- Repair and replace defective or broken sewer infrastructure.
- Operate and troubleshoot vacuum sewer systems, diagnosing issues and implementing solutions.
- Utilize technology to document work, conduct inspections, and maintain accurate digital records.
- Perform duties of Street Maintenance Worker including snow and ice control operations.
- Labor & Lifting – Lift and carry materials weighing 100+ lbs.; transport objects of 100+ lbs. over distances up to 100 feet; operate heavy hand tools such as jackhammers and sledgehammers; perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods; push/pull heavy objects; sustain continuous manual labor 2–4 hours between breaks; work in varying field conditions requiring repetitive motion, exertion, and endurance.
- Mobility & Flexibility – Bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and crawl in confined or uneven spaces; work overhead; climb ladders and steps; maintain balance on uneven, wet, or sloped surfaces; enter confined spaces such as manholes and trenches.
- Sensory & Motor Skills – Use visual acuity to read plans and safety labels; exercise sound judgment and situational awareness; maintain awareness of surroundings; distinguish color‑coded designs; hear and interpret instructions in noisy environments; use fine and gross motor skills for equipment operation.
- Environmental Conditions – Work outdoors in extreme heat (>90 °F) and cold; operate in inclement weather such as rain, snow, and high winds; be exposed to dust, pollen, fumes, and airborne irritants; endure high noise levels; use hearing protection; stand and walk frequently on rough or uneven terrain.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Working knowledge of underground utility systems and associated methods, procedures, and materials for maintenance, construction, and repair of sanitary and storm sewer infrastructure.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Missouri Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
