SCHEDULE:

Full-time – school hours (hours may vary based on building/program needs)

REPORTS TO:

Executive Director of Special Education/Student Services, Building Principals

SUPERVISION:
None

SALARY: $69,850 – $90,362 per year

Qualifications
  • Licensed as a School Psychologist in the state of Minnesota
  • Preferred: 2–5 years of experience working in an educational setting
  • Certification from the National Association of School Psychologists
Position Summary

The school psychologist functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with educators, administrators, support staff, families, and other mental health professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments for students. The psychologist provides a full range of psychological services to students ages 0–21, including screening and assessment, consultation and advisement, and program evaluation to help school staff recognize and meet the individual differences and needs of all children, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional success.

Duties
  • Provide collaborative consultation to parents, teachers, and staff; assist school teams with RtI, pre-referral intervention strategies, and classroom accommodations.
  • Engage in consultation processes with educators and parents per established models; integrate all available data about students.
  • Assist with development of intervention and accommodation plans; provide clear, jargon‑free recommendations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of crisis prevention and early intervention literature.
  • Develop and maintain a regular building schedule; inform staff of variations and participate in school meetings and teams.
  • Maintain a log of consultation activities.
  • Screen and evaluate referred children, selecting appropriate instruments, administering assessments, completing observations, and writing reports with educational program recommendations.
  • Select evaluation techniques appropriate to referral concerns; follow best‑practice guidelines in all evaluation and diagnostic practices.
  • Interpret and communicate psycho‑educational evaluation results in written and oral form to the team and parents, using jargon‑free language.
  • Actively listen and assist with questions regarding evaluation data.
  • Make determinations about outside resource referrals and need for further evaluation or consultation.
  • Participate in team decision‑making regarding eligibility for special education services; contribute to documentation of eligibility.
  • Adhere to ethical standards, codes of the profession, and special education regulations.
  • Serve as a member of the IEP team, contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on child’s education program.
  • Schedule and be present for individual/group services; provide crisis intervention, early intervention, classroom presentations, co‑teaching, and in‑service training.
  • Maintain data on student performance to document progress and effectiveness of therapy.
  • Inform parents, students, and staff of goals and objectives of direct service activities.
  • Participate in district and school‑level planning for crisis prevention; submit records and reports promptly.
  • Review and evaluate new or revised evaluation instruments; recommend acquisition and use in the district.
  • Participate in district level committees; communicate psychological principles in a practical manner.
  • Provide immediate supervision to interns and support staff, including orientation, regular supervision, and feedback.
  • Facilitate internship experience that fulfills specific program requirements.
  • Consult with community, health, and social service agencies about students and provide resources as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of communications and releases of information.
  • Collect diagnostic and follow‑up information as needed by physicians, therapists, etc.
