SCHEDULE:
Hourly hours may vary based on program needs. Spanish speaking.
REPORTS TO:
Director of EL/Cultural Programs, Building Principals, immediate supervisor. SUPERVISION:
None. SALARY: $18.50/hr (starting salary for new hires).
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Highly Qualified status (HQ status as defined by one of the following standards: 60 semester college credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
- Para Exam Preferred
- Similar job‑related experience
- Bilingual
Under direction of the building administrator and the direct day‑to‑day supervision of the EL classroom teacher(s), the EL/ESL Para educator provides instructional support to students needing assistance with English as a Second Language. This includes helping students with English concepts and skills and especially in their acquisition to function meaningfully in mainstream classes.
Essential Duties- Supervising/assisting students during instructional and non‑instructional activities.
- Maintaining awareness and observing student activities/actions; assessing behavior including communicating rules, expectations and consequences.
- Promoting School District rules, policies, procedures, Mission Statement and Core Values.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment.
- Adheres to federal, state and district student data confidentiality and privacy laws.
- Observes, monitors, and communicates student progress to teachers.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions to support the administrator or teacher.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
The ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time; may be exposed to adverse weather. Frequent: walking, standing, sitting, hearing, talking, and seeing. Light work: exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
