Position Summary

The LPN assists with students' daily routine health care, medications, treatments, episodic and first aid care and manages the school's Health Services Office, under the supervision of the Licensed School Nurse (LSN). The LPN provides individualized and potentially complex medical care to students and supports them in classroom settings, monitoring medical needs and providing educational supports as directed by teacher/case manager.

• Maintain site Health Services Office
• Maintain confidentiality related to students
• Report students with repeated symptoms/problems/incidents of communicable disease to LSN
• Assist the LSN in obtaining required verification of immunizations
• Maintain continual communication with LSN regarding health office occurrences or changes to student health information
• Accurately complete/maintain a variety of records, including services to students with IEPs
• Assist with routine assessments, refer findings to LSN
• Attend required district, building, or nursing meetings and trainings
• Handle written/verbal communications with parents and ISD
  742 staff in a professional manner
• Dispense medication and provide treatment as prescribed, including suctioning, tube feeding, checking blood pressure, catheterization, auscultation, and otoscopic exams
• Provide first aid as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Light work: exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly to move objects.

Required: Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license;
Minimum of two years nursing experience;
Experience working with students with multiple handicaps;
Clerical and computer experience.

Preferred: Current CPR certification.
