Description

The Homeschool Program Attendant is responsible for leading and supporting a physical education–based program designed for homeschooled children. This role focuses on promoting physical activity, healthy habits, teamwork, and social development through age-appropriate games, sports, and movement-based activities. The Homeschool Program Attendant creates a safe, positive, and engaging environment where participants can develop physical skills, build self-confidence, and learn the value of cooperation and respect.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, lead, and facilitate age‑appropriate physical education activities for homeschooled children, including games, sports, and movement‑based programming.
  • Promote physical activity, healthy habits, and overall wellness in a fun, engaging, and inclusive environment.
  • Foster social development by encouraging teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, and positive peer interactions.
  • Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and structured program environment in alignment with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Adapt activities to meet the developmental needs and abilities of participants, ensuring all children feel included and supported.
  • Model positive behavior and reinforce respect, confidence, and self‑esteem among participants.
  • Monitor participant behavior and provide guidance to ensure a positive and respectful experience for all.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and YMCA staff regarding program activities, expectations, and participant progress.
  • Assist with set‑up, clean‑up, and proper use of equipment and facilities.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies and complete required documentation as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Experience in coaching or playing the sport is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work with children.
  • Solid understanding of the rules, techniques, and strategies of the sport being coached and the ability to teach and demonstrate to young athletes.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate children to develop their skill, improve performance and foster a positive team atmosphere.
  • Recognized by others for sound character and strong moral values and personal ethics.
  • Ability to work as a team member and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • The work environment is fast‑paced and interactive, with regular communication and teamwork among staff, players and families.
  • Work takes place both indoor and outdoor settings, including gyms, sports fields and recreational areas and requires flexibility to adapt in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, run, sit, kneel, crouch, climb and engage in physical activities for extended periods of time. This includes assisting with activities that require physical coordination.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with setting up or moving equipment for activities.
  • Ability to move quickly in emergency situations and to assist participants as needed.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and well‑being of participants.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
  • The ability to perform repetitive motions.
