The Heavy Haul Driver Manager is responsible for ensuring high quality and profitable operation of the division, leading and developing a fleet of drivers in a deadline driven, fast paced, ever-changing, dynamic work environment. The Driver Manager is responsible for developing strong relationships with their fleet of drivers while achieving performance, training, safety, retention and service needs in accordance with company and department quality, utilization, and profit objectives.
Basepay range
$62,500.00/yr - $87,500.00/yr
Education And Experience- Higher education (i.e. two- or four-year degree) in a related area and/or two to three years of training in a related area and/or equivalent experience in a customer-driven environment.
- Experience in the transportation industry is preferred but not required.
- Management or supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation laws is preferred but not required
- Experience and ability to read a map.
- Experience in developing strong relationships (personal/practical needs) to effectively manage, plan, and prioritize workload for a fleet.
- Strong customer service, time management, and math skills with a drive for results who can persevere in the face of resistance or setbacks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to implement logical conclusions and make well-informed quick decisions.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
- Excellent communication skills (written, listening, and verbal).
- Willing and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel.
- Develop effective working relationships, from a distance, and provide a superior level of service to your fleet of drivers.
- Train, develop and manage a fleet of drivers in support of ATS and departmental goals.
- Partner with HR and Safety to accurately and timely report medical concerns and/or leave requests.
- Conduct root-cause analysis when a failure occurs to identify solutions to eliminate problems in the future and address and effectively resolve performance issues when they occur.
- Meet/exceed established turnover goal by balancing and managing the driver's professional and personal needs
- Assume ownership of the life cycle of each load, by proactively communicating with internal departments the status of loads and any issues that may impact the overall relationship with the driver and ATS.
- Work closely with drivers to help manage optimal performance; ensure the driver arrives with the correct tools and equipment to haul the load, has sufficient log hours to meet load windows and proactively manage driver ETAs and PTAs.
- Problem solve and troubleshoot loading and unload, utilizing available resources to manage requirements, OD regulations, border regulations, port rules, customer specific driver qualifications, etc.
- Lead, influence, and educate your fleet of drivers on ATS Safety Culture to meet and/or exceed established Safety expectations, such as minimizing accidents, compliance, annual tests and in person visits, and safety events.
- Proactively identify safety hazards within the fleet of drivers and organize, conduct and lead safety assessments as needed.
- Work with company planners to ensure load selection support and align with production management and retention management objectives.
- Respect the driver's time by helping to coordinate driver directional requests when appropriate, coordinate mandates and manage down time while maintaining productivity.
- Accountable to effectively manage cost related to damage, abuse, neglect, fuel, layovers, etc.
- Understands and consistently performs in accordance with ATS Mission, Vision, and Values.

- Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required.
