Design Manager - Insulated Metal Panels (IMP)

Location: Cedar City, Utah

Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site

About the Opportunity

We are working with a rapidly growing structural steel and construction company seeking an experienced Design Manager to support its expanding Insulated Metal Panel (IMP) division in Cedar City, Utah.

The company delivers large-scale commercial and industrial construction projects throughout the United States, including data centers, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and semiconductor facilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong professional with experience in insulated metal panels, building envelope systems, structural steel detailing, or design coordination to take ownership of the design process and play an important role in a growing division.

The successful candidate will coordinate engineers, external detailing teams, architects, and clients to ensure design packages progress efficiently and meet project requirements.

This is a design management position, not a hands-on detailing or 3D modelling role. We are looking for someone who understands technical drawings, can identify potential issues, and has the organisational and communication skills to manage the design process effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the design process for insulated metal panel wall systems.
  • Work closely with internal and external engineers, detailing teams, architects, and project managers.
  • Review architectural, structural, and technical drawings to identify discrepancies and coordination issues.
  • Oversee outsourced detailing and engineering activities, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements.
  • Manage design schedules, drawing submissions, technical reviews, and outstanding deliverables.
  • Coordinate engineering and detailing purchase orders with external consultants.
  • Lead and participate in design coordination meetings with clients, architects, and engineers.
  • Track technical queries, drawing revisions, and outstanding design decisions through to resolution.
  • Ensure effective communication between design teams and project stakeholders.
  • Support the timely progression of design packages in line with project schedules.
Requirements
  • Experience in design management, design coordination, detailing management, or technical project management within construction.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and review architectural and structural drawings.
  • Understanding of construction methods, building systems, and technical design requirements.
  • Experience coordinating engineers, detailers, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify technical issues and coordinate appropriate solutions.
  • Strong organisational skills, including managing schedules, deliverables, and multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with architects, engineers, and clients.
  • Ability to take ownership of design-related challenges and ensure actions are followed through.
Preferred Experience
  • Insulated Metal Panels (IMP) or architectural metal wall systems.
  • Building envelope design or construction.
  • Structural steel detailing, fabrication, or design coordination.
  • Managing outsourced engineering and detailing services.
  • Delegated design and drawing approval processes.
  • Familiarity with Tekla Structures or similar detailing software.

Direct IMP experience is preferred but not essential. Candidates with relevant structural steel or building systems experience and a strong background in technical design coordination will also be considered.

A degree is not mandatory; practical experience and demonstrated technical capability are highly valued.

What's on Offer?
  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-related bonus opportunities.
  • Healthcare benefits.
  • 401(k) with company matching.
  • Relocation assistance for suitable candidates.
  • Opportunity to join a rapidly expanding division with a strong pipeline of major projects.
  • Exposure to complex industrial and commercial construction projects.
  • Long-term career development within an established and growing organisation.
