Overview

The Peer Workforce Coordinator supports USU Extension's peer support workforce development programs, which train Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) and Family Peer Support Specialists (FPSS) and help them move into the behavioral health workforce through internships and apprenticeships.

This position has two primary functions: (1) guiding peer support specialists trained by USU Extension through their internships and apprenticeships, including tracking hours, helping them obtain continuing education units (CEUs), and processing payments; and (2) organizing and coordinating peer support trainings and their logistics. The coordinator also tracks data on peers and trainings, recruits and mentors peers placed in internships at partner agencies (including through the Utah Rural Health Transformation Program), and has the opportunity to develop into a peer trainer.

Responsibilities
  • Internship and apprenticeship support (primary function). Guides peer support specialists trained by USU Extension through their internships and apprenticeships. Tracks supervised and work hours, verifies documentation, monitors each peer's progress toward program and certification requirements, and serves as their day-to-day point of contact for questions and problem-solving.
  • CEUs and payments (primary function). Helps peers obtain and document continuing education units (CEUs) and certification requirements. Processes stipends and other payments to interns, apprentices, and trainers, preparing purchasing and payment documents and working with the department business office to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Training coordination and logistics (primary function). Organizes and coordinates peer support trainings (e.g., CPSS, FPSS, and CEU workshops), including scheduling, venues, registration, virtual platforms, materials, trainer arrangements, travel, and catering. Serves as the on-site or virtual point of contact during trainings.
  • Peer trainer development. Co-facilitates peer support trainings and, with appropriate preparation and approval, may become a peer trainer who delivers trainings independently.
  • Data tracking and reporting. Maintains accurate records and databases on peers and trainings, including enrollment, attendance, hours, CEUs, completion, certification, and employment outcomes, as well as training evaluations. Prepares data summaries and reports for grant funders and program leadership.
  • Peer recruitment for internships. Identifies and recruits peer support specialists to participate in internships at partner agencies, including rural host agencies through the Utah Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), and helps match peers with placements.
  • Peer mentorship. Provides mentorship and support to peer interns and apprentices through regular check-ins, professional development guidance, and help navigating workplace challenges. Coordinates with host agency supervisors and program coaches.
  • Communication and outreach. Develops flyers, emails, newsletters, and social media content to recruit participants for trainings, internships, and apprenticeships.
