Project Engineer- St. George

Summary

Assist in planning, designing, and directing geotechnical engineering or construction testing/inspection projects.

• Take ownership/responsibility for projects as assigned.
  • Serve as a project manager or project engineer and as a designated client contact.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering agreements for his/her projects.
  • Prepare design computations and quantity estimates.
  • Responsible for control of work-in-process, ensures accurate client billings, and monitors outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on his/her projects.
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project.
  • Handle routine contract administration.
  • Prepare or modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project.
  • Instruct draftspersons / technicians to reduce designs to working drawings.
  • Visit construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents; perform field work as needed.
  • Serve as onsite project representative.
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Responsible for project manager and/or project team quality system tasks as defined in the quality manual.
• Satisfactory or above profitability of Project/Client of 15+%.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets for smaller, less complex projects.
  • Assist in the coordination of pricing, estimating, scoping and marketing strategies for proposed projects.
• Proactively communicate and follow up with engineering manager.
• Attend client meetings – days or nights.
• Direct and supervise engineering intern’s activities.
• Responsible for project schedules and timely completion of smaller, less complex projects.
• Show commitment as a team player – support fellow engineers and interns.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and contribute to a harmonious atmosphere on a daily basis.
• Support directives from the engineering manager and the president.
• The P.E. should also join and participate in a Professional Organization acceptable to GES.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience or the equivalent thereof.
• P.E. required (Utah preferred).
• Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry and financial functions to practical situations.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Valid driver’s license.
