Overview

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Child Care Educator to join our Child Care and After School Department. In this role, you will support children’s learning, growth, and social development in a safe, child-centered environment. The Educator will work primarily with children aged 12 months to 5 years, planning and implementing weekly program plans based on their interests, and actively engaging with them to promote physical, social, and emotional development.

You will also build positive relationships with children and their families to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. This position requires a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children, with working hours from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Understands and complies with New Brunswick Child Care Facility Standards and Abuse Protocol Practices.
  • Plans and implements programming in accordance with YMCA policies and New Brunswick standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to YMCA Playing to Learn and the New Brunswick Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum.
  • Shows a strong commitment to children’s learning and development, informed by current research and best practices.
  • Understands the unique needs of each child and their family and plans programming to support successful outcomes.
  • Ensures all daily routines are followed, documented, and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in the YMCA Southwestern New Brunswick Employee and Child Care Policy Manuals, including record-keeping requirements as mandated by the Department of Social Development, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Completes and submits weekly documentation to the reporting supervisor.
  • Participates in quarterly training sessions to support ongoing professional development and skill enhancement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the reporting supervisor.
Skills And Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a Child Care, After School, or Youth program.
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate or Diploma is required.
  • Knowledge of the New Brunswick Curriculum Framework and/or Play to Learn is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of computers and a willingness to learn relevant software applications.
  • Flexibility with assigned working hours.
  • Strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required.
  • Ability to travel between different program sites within Saint John as required to meet staffing needs when necessary.
