Schedule:
Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, Rotation, Other, Subject to change due to operational requirements. Language Requirement:
English Essential. Salary: 44.98 to 54.70 per hour (Graduate RNCA – $43.18; Registered Nurse – as per the salary range indicated).
Job Purpose
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse provides quality patient care within the scope of professional nursing practice to patients and their families, (including high risk obstetrics) during the Labour and Birth experience and 3AN OBS/Gyne unit in the Women and Children’s Health Program. The incumbent will be required to scrub and circulate during surgeries and recover patients in the postoperative period.
Although primarily assigned to Labour & Birth and 3AN, the incumbent will work within the Women and Children’s Health Program as necessary, rotating regularly between L&B and 3AN.
Qualifications
- Current registration with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB)
- Ability to perform duties of the position and support Family Centered Maternal Newborn care
- Successful completion of the Fetal Health Surveillance course given during orientation
- Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course and recertified yearly as a condition of continuing employment
- Neonatal Resuscitation Certification required within 6 months of hire
- Breastfeeding module within 1 st year of hire
- L&B operating room course within 3 months of hire
- Additional course completions as determined by the Women & Children’s Health program
- Possesses the medical/surgical nursing knowledge and clinical skills/expertise necessary to provide care for this population and off service patients
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities and complex patient situations
- Demonstrate and understand the Nursing Process
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Proof of up-to-date immunization status
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates an understanding of Family Centered Maternal and Newborn (and Gynecology) principles
- Assesses the health care needs of patients including patients assigned to other health care personnel
- Identifies patient needs and problems utilizing an assessment tool
- Identifies needs affecting discharge planning and potential services required at home
- Formulates objectives specific to the patient needs
- Provides health teaching, counselling, health promotion to individuals or groups
- Provides nursing care required to achieve the patient’s desired outcomes
- Evaluates outcomes of nursing actions for further assessment and planning
- Utilizes effective communication skills to achieve a helping relationship
- Provides support and works with student personnel to ensure a positive learning experience (UNB, LPN, Refresher RN students)
- Works co‑operatively with allied health personnel and delegates, consults and refers appropriately
- Directs and supervises non‑professional staff
- Interacts with the patient care team to identify, plan, implement and evaluate changes
- Demonstrates initiative for personal professional development
- Obtains and maintains required training and qualifications
- Participates in programs promoting quality improvement on nursing unit
- Demonstrates competent use of equipment used in this nursing care area (e.g. Breast Pumps, Electronic Fetal Monitor, Infant scales, Vital Sign Monitors, Bilimeters, etc)
- Communication, interpersonal, teaching, and team building skills
- Assessment skills and ability to function independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities and complex patient situations
- Initiative and good judgement
- High regard for confidentiality and advocacy for patients
- Ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with patients, families, staff, physicians and the general public
