Job Classification:
Registered Nurse Class A (RNCA). Job Type: Permanent Full Time, FTE: 1.
Schedule:
Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, Rotation, Subject to change per operational requirements.
Language Requirement:
English Essential and spoken French (B1.2 / Intermediate +). Salary: $45.49 to $55.32 per hour (Graduate RNCA - $43.67; Registered Nurse - as per the salary range indicated).
Provision of concentrated medical and surgical related cardiac nursing care, to meet the individual patient's needs by utilizing the nursing process within a team environment.
Qualifications- Currently registered with the College of Nursing of New Brunswick (CNNB) – renewed annually by November 15 as per Horizon policy.
- Current ICU or CCU experience (at least 1 year) or 1 year clinical cardiac surgery and cardiology or cardiac intervention experience or 3 years medical/surgical experience.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of the nursing process (assessment, plan, implementation, evaluation + documentation using the DARP focus charting model).
- Demonstrated knowledge of cardiac anatomy & physiology, cardiac rhythm strip and ECG interpretation, and administration of titrated and IV push cardio‑active drugs.
- Current IV therapy and phlebotomy certifications.
- Defibrillation certification and willingness to participate as a member of the Code Blue and Code White teams.
- Demonstrated regard for confidentiality including Horizon policies regarding social media and communication devices while at the workplace.
- Demonstrated professional initiative and good judgment in nursing care with strong critical‑thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with patients, families and all members of the interdisciplinary health‑care team respecting language of choice.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to providing care in the language of service required in the NB Heart Center.
- BCLS and ACLS certification.
- Willingness to accept change and adapt in a changing environment.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis (including shift work).
- Ability to perform the duties of the position including demonstration of advanced nursing competencies and delegated medical functions as stated or as acquired with appropriate certification documents.
- Demonstrated competency and efficiency in performance of all basic nursing care domains: hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and elimination.
- Advanced assessment of patients’ health‑care needs referred for NB Heart Center services, using assessment to direct care to the most appropriate team member and reassessing as patient condition changes.
- Obtain, maintain, apply specialized nursing knowledge related to cardiac medical and surgical interventions, and act as a team member, team leader or charge nurse, supporting physicians, surgeons, patients, and families.
- Identify patient needs and problems using assessment tools and facilitate nursing care to achieve desired outcomes.
- Document the patient care plan, problems, and progress using DARP format, demonstrating understanding of paper and electronic charting for 5BN nursing continuum.
- Identify patients’ educational needs, develop teaching plans, provide health teaching, counseling, and health promotion, and facilitate referrals for continuation of care post‑discharge.
- From admission identify discharge planning needs, coordinate services required at home, and document and communicate discharge teaching on electronic and paper records as appropriate.
- Formulate objectives specific to patient care requirements and enter these for daily review on clinical summary tiles.
- Evaluate outcomes of nursing actions, adjust assessment and planning, and document using DARP charting.
- Utilize effective communication to build helping relationships with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team in the language of their choice.
