Site Description: Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick and is the primary health care referral centre for this area and to all New Brunswickers for major trauma and cardiac care. The New Brunswick Trauma Program, New Brunswick Heart Centre, and the New Brunswick Stem Cell Transplant Centre are located within the hospital, as are Radiation Oncology and Nephrology services.
This site offers autologous stem cell therapy and a stem cell processing laboratory.
The Saint John Regional Hospital also serves as the centre for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick’s distributed medical education program. The hospital services a catchment population of 170,000 people.

Position: Casual Security Guard
Site: Saint John Regional Hospital
Overtime: Overtime (excess of 44 hours)
Hours: As needed
Payrate: $ 21.16/hour

Key responsibilities:
- Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
- Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
- Access Control:
Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas. - Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
- Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
- Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
- Collaboration with Hospital Staff:
Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved. - Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards.
Prerequisites:
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Covid Vaccine two doses
- Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two step TB skin test
- English (oral and written) fluency is a must
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
- Please be aware:
The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
