Qualifications:
Required: Must obtain or possess a current Substitute Certificate or a Teacher Certificate prior to start date. Required to pursue and obtain MANDT Certification at the first available opportunity. This position requires some physical strength and agility, including: the ability to lift up to 50 pounds; the ability to sit on the floor with children; the ability to kneel, stoop, and crawl;
and the ability to push/pull children in wagons and strollers.
- Associate’s degree or higher (need official transcripts for file)
- 60 college credit hours (need official transcripts for file)
- Completed Missouri’s 20‑hour online substitute training program
- Required copy of high school diploma, high school transcripts, or proof of GED

PurposeSupports students impacted by cognitive, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities so that each student can access the highest quality education. Assists in teaching, tends to the needs of students, and collects data in order to meet educational goals. Works with the classroom teacher to provide accommodations, tailor lesson plans, and monitor student progress. Supervises, guides, and assists students in their daily activities.
EssentialJob Functions
- Attend work in a regular, reliable, and punctual manner.
- Telework when requested by the District.
- Provide direct support to students by working individually, in small groups, whole groups, or learning centers as guided by the classroom teacher.
- Assist in the preparation and/or development of instructional activities and materials.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom environment by keeping materials and equipment sanitized and organized.
- Assist and maintain data records of attendance, behaviors, performance, and goals and objectives as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Utilize classroom technology, adaptive devices and equipment to support student learning.
- Monitor individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (classroom, hallways, playground, field trips, home visits, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Implement current behavior management strategies as directed by the classroom teacher and program guidelines.
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- May assist with toileting, diapering, dressing, hygiene and, in appropriate cases, with medical assistance.
- Work cooperatively with students, classroom teachers, administration, specialists and other special education staff while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Attend all early childhood in‑service trainings as requested.
- Cover a class when a substitute teacher is unavailable.
- Other assigned duties.
