Field Training Specialist

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking a Field Training Specialist in St. Joseph, MO to join our team.

The Field Training Specialist is responsible for delivering in-person onboarding and operational skills training for Specialized Railroad Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) employees at our St. Joseph, MO training location. Facilitates the multi-phase new hire training program consisting of classroom and field orientation followed by extended field training. Continues monitoring trainee performance once assigned to the field and verifies operational readiness before employees work independently.

Facilitates completion of new hire On-the-Job Training (OJT) requirements and ongoing skills validation and refresher training.

• Facilitate the in-person new hire orientation including railroad safety, rules, policies, certifications, and field familiarization
• Assist with Specialized Equipment Operator field training program including equipment use, job duties, safety procedures, and hands‑on instruction
• Conduct classroom and field instruction on topics such as Roadway Worker Protection, Blue Signal Protection, communication procedures, regulatory training, and practical switching and track safety
• Facilitate the company Driver Training Program for employees who operate fleet vehicles, commercial vehicles, or other equipment
• Complete, validate, and record OJT checklists and training documentation for each new hire
• Verify employees have completed all required training prior to field deployment.
• Track trainee progress after deployment using field reports, supervisor feedback, and skill‑readiness observations
• Communicate trainee status updates, readiness levels, and remaining skill gaps to Operations Management team and the Training Manager.
• Maintain instructional materials, schedules, presentations, and job aids for field training programs as required
• Conduct annual refresher training for existing employees
• Recommend improvements to training processes and materials
• Assist in the training needs and tracking of employees to acquire and maintain necessary certifications.
• Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Up to 10% travel may be required.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous Railroad or construction-related experience preferred
• Experience with or knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and repair preferred
• Experience with or knowledge of DOT regulations a plus
• High attention to detail and strict adherence to training programs required
• Previous experience delivering training content, classroom instruction, and Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Products
• Ability to work well with others while enhancing commitment to and enthusiasm for a safe work environment throughout the Company
• Strong communication skills
