Summary:

• This position performs testing in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, and Urinalysis. The MLS uses critical thinking to evaluate results, enters test results into the laboratory computer, performs QC, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting, monitors the work of Laboratory Technicians, answers telephones and tube system, collects blood specimens if needed, and keeps the work area clean and stocked. Delivers excellent customer service to patients, visitors, caregivers of other departments, and each other.
• This position works under the supervision of the Director and Department Lead and is employed by Mosaic Life Care.

Duties:

• Perform laboratory tests and quality control testing, adhering to laboratory standard operating procedures and policies.
• Perform laboratory computer operations to request laboratory tests, access patient results, and enter patient results. Process patient workload accurately and efficiently. Send specimens to reference lab as needed for testing.
• Perform instrument troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
• Complete competency testing as given by Laboratory Management.
• Answer telephones and tube system, direct calls, test requests, provide phone reports, fax reports as needed, and deliver excellent customer service. Communicate effectively with providers and caregivers while maintaining patient and staff confidentiality.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree with a four-year college science degree, and/or including training in an approved clinical laboratory training program is required.
• ASCP - Medical Technologist ASCP or AMT is required. MLS - Medical Lab Scientist (formerly MT Certification) is required.
• No previous experience required. An eight to ten week in-house orientation and training period is required.
