Machine Shop Supervisor

Van-Am Tool & Engineering is seeking a Machine Shop Supervisor to lead our team of machinists in a fast‑paced metal fabrication environment. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the machine shop, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of machinists, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate production.
• Plan and assign workloads to support customer requirements and production schedules.
• Provide technical guidance and support on machining processes, setups, and equipment operation.
• Train, mentor, and develop machinists, fostering growth in technical skills and problem‑solving.
• Monitor workflow and quality, addressing issues quickly to minimize downtime and rework.
• Partner with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure parts meet specifications and timelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient machine shop environment.

• Education/
  
  Experience:
  
  High school diploma or GED required. Technical degree or journeyman machinist certification preferred. Minimum 3–5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Skills:
  
  Strong knowledge of machining principles, blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measuring equipment. Effective leadership, coaching, and communication skills. Ability to organize work, solve problems, and make decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
• Other Requirements:
  Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
