The Payroll Manager is a subject matter expert responsible for the accurate, timely and compliant processing of the organization's payroll. They will ensure that systems, policies and practices support the organization's strategic goals and culture while meeting all applicable federal, state and local compliance requirements. The Payroll Manager leads, manages and develops the team, processes and controls needed to pay employees accurately and on time while safeguarding the accuracy and integrity of payroll data.
This role fosters partnership across Human Resources, Finance and Accounting, and Operations, while providing excellence in customer service and collaboration daily to all employees supported by this team.

- Provide hands-on leadership support to the payroll team, leading and developing staff to increase their capability in areas including, but not limited to payroll processing, tax compliance, garnishments, benefits deductions, payroll accounting, and system optimization.
- Formulates and continually improves payroll processes, controls and the team's strategy with a steady focus on accuracy, efficiency and employee experience.
- Manages the end-to-end processing of multi-state payroll, including new hires, terminations, garnishments, tax with holdings, benefits deductions, and off-cycle payments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness each pay cycle.
- Remains current with payroll tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and local, state and federal compliance requirements to ensure alignment of payroll processes and controls.
- Develops and utilizes payroll analytics and KPIs, and partners with Finance to reconcile payroll accounts and support accurate general ledger reporting.
- Proactively identifies, defines and resolves complex payroll and broad impact business-related issues, including audit findings and system discrepancies.
- Ensure legal compliance for payroll in all applicable legal areas including but not limited to FLSA, IRS and state tax regulations, wage garnishment law, and unclaimed property/escheatment requirements.

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working in payroll processing and administration, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Strong payroll foundation with breadth and depth of multi-state payroll knowledge, tax regulations, data analytics, and best practices preferred.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
- Prior experience overseeing payroll within a UKG/WFM environment strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of specific payroll complexities of health care organizations and 24/7 operations preferred.
- Ability to understand and effectively facilitate process improvement and change management related to payroll systems, policies and organizational objectives.
- Ability to clearly articulate complex payroll subjects in straightforward terms for employees and managers.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of payroll tax law, wage and hour compliance, and audit practices.
- Proven success leading payroll teams and representing the entire company, including role modeling the culture, values, and expected behavior.
- Comfort in ambiguity and ability to make sound choices in complex, time-sensitive situations which balance the needs of the business and the employee.
- Must be proficient with technology and technological applications typically accessed in a corporate environment.
