Accounts Payable Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a team in Saint Louis, Missouri in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position supports day-to-day payment operations, helps maintain accurate financial records, and contributes to timely month-end activities. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage confidential information in a fast-paced accounting environment.

Responsibilities:

- Process vendor invoices accurately, including account coding, system entry, and maintenance of organized accounts payable records.

- Review payment activity to ensure purchase orders, approval thresholds, and internal control standards are consistently followed.

- Support monthly close procedures by preparing accounts payable information and assisting with related reconciliations.

- Examine and process corporate card transactions, confirming accuracy and proper documentation before payment.

- Maintain vendor tax reporting details and supporting records required for annual 1099 preparation.

- Compile financial backup and requested documents for internal and external audit reviews.

- Provide occasional assistance with cash receipt posting and customer invoicing as business needs require.

- Help prepare presentation materials and reporting content for leadership or board-related meetings.

- Manage ACH payments and check runs while ensuring timely and accurate disbursement of funds. Requirements - At least 3 years of experience in accounts payable or a closely related accounting support role.

- Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or a similar field.

- Demonstrated experience with invoice coding, payment processing, ACH transactions, and check run administration.

- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and other core business tools.

- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment and discretion.

- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy.

- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines effectively in a dynamic work environment.

- Experience with payroll software is preferred; familiarity with Paylocity and Sage Intacct is a plus.
