Sr. Construction Inspector role at GFT – Hybrid work model with regular attendance at our St. Louis, MO office.
What You Will DoAs an experienced construction inspector with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, you will serve as a daily point of contact with clients and contractors and manage all aspects of a project, including construction observations, material testing, and maintaining documentation. You will inspect and oversee construction work to ensure that results, procedures, and materials comply with plans and specifications.
Responsibilities- Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts.
- Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of installations.
- Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures followed, and materials used conform to specifications.
- Prepare samples of materials for laboratory testing.
- Examine workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approve installation.
- Interpret plans and specifications for contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
- Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods, develop pay estimates and change orders.
- Maintain daily log of construction and inspection activities and compare progress reports.
- Monitor several types of work activity, however not simultaneously.
- Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance.
- Manage documents using electronic platforms such as AASHTOWare, e-Builder, or Transport.
- High school diploma.
- 10+ years progressive experience in transportation engineering and inspection of bridge and/or highway structures on state MODOT, municipal, and/or multimodal projects.
- A safety‑first mindset.
- Strong writing, listening and communication skills.
- ACI Field and/or Strength, Troxler or similar state MODOT certification (recommended).
- Ability to work collaboratively with peers, clients and contractors to solve problems and conflicts.
- Ability and desire to lead.
Hourly rate: $30.00 – $41.00 per hour, depending on experience and geographic location.
