Director of Construction – Civil Construction - St. Louis, MO
Metric Geo is confidentially partnered with an established heavy civil contractor in the St. Louis market to identify an experienced Director of Construction to join their leadership team.
This is a senior-level opportunity for a proven construction leader who can oversee project delivery, develop project and field teams, and ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight across active construction projects
- Manage and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, costs, production, and overall performance
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract requirements
- Review project performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and profitability
- Assist project teams with complex scheduling, contractual, and operational issues
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and resources across projects
- Work closely with estimating and preconstruction teams during project handoff
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, municipalities, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors
- Establish consistent construction processes, standards, and accountability across project teams
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing project and field personnel
- Participate in project planning, forecasting, and strategic construction decisions
- Support the company's continued growth through strong project execution and client relationships
Ideal Background
- 10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction
- Previous experience as a Director of Construction, Senior Project Manager, General Superintendent, or similar leadership position
- Strong background in earthwork, underground utilities, site development, grading or related civil construction
- Proven experience overseeing multiple projects and project teams
- Strong understanding of construction schedules, budgets, contracts, forecasting, and project financials
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Project Managers and Superintendents
- Experience with DOT, municipal, commercial, or other public-sector projects preferred
- Strong relationships within the St. Louis/Missouri construction market highly valued
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
