St. Louis Voices Academy is an innovative charter public school leveraging media arts and storytelling to empower students to excel academically, author their futures, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. We are growing one grade per year and will ultimately serve K-5 students. Our approach emphasizes media & storytelling, whole-child development, real-world inquiry, and progressive learner autonomy.
Role OverviewThe School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting students' academic, social-emotional, and personal growth. By providing counseling, guidance, and intervention strategies, the counselor ensures students have the tools they need to thrive. They will collaborate with teachers, families, and leadership to foster a positive school culture, connect families to essential resources, and implement a comprehensive counseling program aligned with our mission.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Individual & Group Counseling – Support students in developing self-management, social, and learning strategies.
- Collaborate with Teachers & Families – Consult with staff and parents to address student needs and implement interventions.
- Assess & Support Student Development – Administer and interpret assessments, maintain student records, and identify those needing additional services.
- Lead Academic Planning – Implement guidance programs to help students set and achieve academic and personal goals.
- Facilitate Student Orientation & Transition Support – Assist with enrollment, Kindergarten round-up, and new student transitions.
- Promote a Positive School Culture – Support student incentives, school-wide events, and restorative justice practices.
- Engage in Professional Growth – Stay current on best practices in counseling and contribute to staff development.
- Missouri School Counselor Certification
- Degree in Counseling or related field
- Passion for educational equity and whole-child development
- Strong collaboration skills with educators, families, and community partners
- Experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds and applying restorative practice.
