Job Summary
:
The College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities (CoSSAH) at Harris-Stowe State University is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. Strong candidates will demonstrate themselves as an educator-scholar, possessing the ability to integrate interdisciplinary perspectives of Criminal Justice using high impact pedagogy. Strong candidates must exhibit a willingness to readily and consistently engage in recruitment and retention efforts and be able to present a recruitment and retention plan if an interview is granted.
All candidates should be willing to demonstrate their commitment to working with undergraduate students in a minority-serving institution and possess the proficiency to teach in a culturally competent manner.
Key Responsibilities
:
- Teach a full course load in Criminal Justice (4 courses per semester) at the undergraduate level with modalities including in-person or online
- Develop, maintain, and distribute course syllabi containing learning objectives, incorporating multiple levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy and meeting institutional and accreditation standards.
- Prepare and deliver engaging literature-driven lectures utilizing high-impact teaching practices.
- Conduct appropriate evaluations of students' performances and maintain accurate records of grades and attendance according to University requirements.
- Provide access to students through regular office hours and involvement on campus.
- Provide academic and career mentorship to students as appropriate.
- Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through study of academic literature.
- Establish and sustain an active research agenda in Criminal Justice, producing research products (peer reviewed publications, conference presentations, etc.).
- Undergo observations, evaluations, and professional development to improve job performance.
- Demonstrate a willingness to adhere to all university policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications & Expectations
:
- An earned Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Criminal Justice
- Experience or demonstrated capacity for online education, including adherence to Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) standards
- Evidence of or potential for scholarly research and publication
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canvas, Blackboard, or a similar online learning platform
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and culturally competent academic environment.
