We purchase our own power from the market – about 60% from the Prairie State coal power plant in Lively Grove, Illinois, and 40% from diverse sources linked to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) grid. This includes a balanced mix of coal, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy from wind and solar, positioning Kirkwood Electric as a leader in sustainable, community‑driven energy management.

• Leading daily operations and long‑range planning of the City’s generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
• Managing an annual operating budget of approximately $35 million.
• Overseeing 18 employees and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and professional growth.
• Negotiating wholesale power purchase agreements and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Providing guidance to City leadership on rate structures, infrastructure investments, and policy decisions.
