SummaryThe Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for performing inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of medical and non‑medical support equipment, including medical package tools, generators, and environmental control units. The BMET ensures all work is conducted in compliance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidance, DoD instructions, applicable regulations, and unit directives. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to established procedures to maintain equipment reliability and operational readiness.
Responsibilities- Follow original equipment manufacturer guidance, AFI, regulations, and unit direction
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in medical devices, perform necessary repairs or coordinate with vendors for service when required
- Maintain detailed service records, documenting repairs, maintenance actions, and performance evaluations
- Assist in the installation and configuration of new biomedical equipment, ensuring proper functionality
- Perform other duties as assigned
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of biomedical equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems related to medical devices
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical manuals and safety guidelines
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team
- Effective communication skills to provide technical support and document service activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Graduated from the DoD Biomedical Maintenance Course, an accredited civilian Biomedical Maintenance Course, or the Planmecca digital dental course
- At least 2 years of field experience performing initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, general maintenance, and repair of medical equipment within OEM guidance
- Must be able to pass client background screening for security clearance
- Travel may be required for this position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor degree in a related field
