Position DescriptionThe Senior Electrical Engineer will collaborate to lead the design and development of controlled environment rooms, including cold rooms, temperature- and humidity-controlled chambers, and other specialized spaces. Leadership capabilities to guide projects and mentor engineering team members are essential. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in both the technical design and execution of custom-engineered environmental rooms across various industries, ensuring systems perform reliably, efficiently, and meet all applicable requirements.
Reports to:
Senior Managing Director
- Lead the electrical and automation design of custom temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms and chambers.
- Design and specify electrical power distribution, control panels, and wiring systems tailored to each application.
- Collaborate on mechanical aspects of temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms and chambers to ensure integrated system performance.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering team to perform load calculations, equipment sizing, and system layouts based on customer requirements.
- Coordinate closely with mechanical and control teams to ensure integrated system performance.
- Participate in the production of, review and approval of technical drawings, submittals, and equipment specification.
- Participate in field surveys, installation reviews, and system commissioning when needed.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and technical oversight to junior engineers and designers.
- Ensure all designs meet relevant codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Maintain detailed documentation, including design reports, calculations, and revision tracking.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 6+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in power distribution, controls, or building systems design.
- Proficient in point to point and iEEE standard drawings to work with the production of the control panels as well as Skycad, Solidworks, AutoCAD or Revit.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, refrigeration) and their interaction with electrical systems.
- Experience designing electrical systems for environmental or temperature-controlled spaces.
- Proven ability to lead projects and manage engineering tasks from concept through completion.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
- Willingness to travel with overnight stays as required.
- Hands-on knowledge of electrical systems, including switch gear, panels and backup power solutions.
- Experience with control systems and integration for HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
- Familiarity with environmental rooms used in life sciences, food storage, research or agriculture.
- Field or commissioning experience is highly valued.
