Senior CAD Technician – Transportation

Join HNTB's Central States offices and be integral to the growth of our transportation design practice.

We are seeking a team‑oriented transportation designer/technician with experience in KDOT, MoDOT, KTA, and/or local municipal transportation and roadway design, as well as proficiency in CAD design software.

• Verify the accuracy of drawings, ensuring compatibility across disciplines and checking detail and quantity calculations.
• Calculate design data, prepare layouts, detailed specifications, estimates, and reports.
• Assist in preparing engineering studies and evaluations involved in the development of projects from initial concept to design stage.
• Attend project and pre‑construction meetings, providing input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed.
• Resolve technical design problems, including field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and data analyses.
• Perform general administrative assistance by maintaining complex project plans, developing documentation, and preparing project management reports.
• Make recommendations regarding process improvement for project delivery at the office level.
• Calculate quantities and perform engineering‑related computations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or related field and 6 years of relevant experience.
• Associate of Science in Drafting or Technical School or related and 8 years of relevant experience.
• In lieu of education, 10 years of relevant experience.

• Ability to interpret and work from design sketches to produce an intended drawing or detail with some supervision.
• Familiarity with transportation terminology.
• Ability to express ideas and questions clearly with the design team.
• Proficiency with, or ability to quickly become proficient in Bentley Microstation software (Open Roads and Inroads).
• Openness to applying skills to new and different processes.

• Good time management skills.
• Good communication skills.
• 2 years of experience with transportation/roadway projects.
