Redefine What’s Possible in Structural Engineering — With Apex Structural Engineering
At Apex Structural Engineering, we’re not just designing buildings — we’re reshaping how they’re delivered. As the firm behind Accelerated Project Delivery™ (APD), we cut months from traditional construction timelines by integrating structural design with shop drawing production, advanced modeling tools, and real-time collaboration.
Whether you're a seasoned engineer ready to push the boundaries of innovation, or a recent graduate eager to make an immediate impact, Apex offers a place where your ideas are heard, your growth is prioritized, and your work changes the pace of the industry — all within a culture that values flexibility, well-being, and true collaboration.
Join a team where engineering meets acceleration — and where your next step elevates everything.
POSITION OVERVIEWThe Project Engineer II is a developing structural engineer who has established a foundation in structural analysis and design and is progressing toward greater technical independence. Typically having two to four years of experience, the Project Engineer II works under the direction of Project Executives and Project Managers while performing increasingly complex structural analysis, design, and documentation.
At this level, engineers are expected to build upon the fundamental skills developed as a Project Engineer I by expanding their knowledge of structural systems, developing proficiency with Apex's preferred design software, gaining experience with building analysis models, and developing a stronger understanding of construction documents and how structural systems are represented within them.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform structural analysis and design of increasingly complex structural components and systems with guidance from Project Managers and more experienced engineers.
- Develop gravity and lateral building analysis models using Apex's preferred structural analysis and design software, including three-dimensional models for typical building structures.
- Develop building loading within structural analysis models, including gravity, wind, seismic, snow, rain, and other applicable loads based on ASCE 7 and project-specific design criteria.
- Evaluate structural load paths and transfer forces and reactions between slabs, beams, columns, walls, lateral systems, foundations, connections, and other structural components.
- Review structural analysis results for reasonableness and begin identifying unexpected forces, reactions, deflections, or behavior that may require additional evaluation or guidance.
- Apply applicable building codes and material design standards to the analysis and design of structural systems and components and develop greater proficiency in locating and interpreting applicable code provisions.
- Prepare organized structural calculations and engineering documentation that clearly communicate design assumptions, loading, analysis methods, and design results for review by more experienced engineers.
- Continue developing the ability to read and understand architectural and structural construction documents and use information contained within those documents to perform assigned structural design.
- Develop structural design information for incorporation into project drawings and models, including member sizes, geometry, elevations, reactions, loads, foundation requirements, and typical structural details.
- Assist BIM/modeling team members with routine engineering information needed to develop structural drawings and models and review assigned portions of the documents to verify that basic engineering information has been incorporated correctly.
- Perform engineering reviews of assigned portions of structural drawings and models for…
