Company Description

Matter Family Office is a multi-family office dedicated to helping families thrive for generations. Founded in 1990 and privately held, Matter provides family operations, wealth planning, investment management, family learning, and project management services to clients nationwide from offices in St. Louis, Denver, and Dallas. Our collaborative culture blends accountability and trust with optimism and fun.

Job Description

The Managing Director, Investor Advisory is the link between Matter's investment strategy and the client experience. You own the translation of firm-level investment guidance into client-specific policy: building Investment Policy Statements, keeping portfolios aligned with Matter's investment philosophy, and leading private markets execution, client communication, and advisor education. You report to the Head of Investment Advisory and partner with the Investment Committee, Portfolio Management, Investment Research, and Client Teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain client Investment Policy Statements (IPS) that reflect each family's objectives, constraints, and liquidity needs
  • Keep portfolio targets and implementation consistent with Matter's investment philosophy, and escalate when positioning drifts from guidance
  • Lead portfolio review, IPS creation, and transition planning for new clients
  • Maintain private markets pacing models and coordinate the distribution of approved private investments across eligible portfolios
  • Deliver proactive portfolio reviews, market discussions, and investment recommendations to clients
  • Develop and lead advisor training so Matter's investment philosophy is communicated consistently
  • Produce and present quarterly performance reporting
  • Contribute to firm investment strategy, manager research, and portfolio decisions
Qualifications
  • 10–15+ years in investment advisory, wealth or private client management, family office, or institutional asset management
  • Proven ownership of IPS development and of keeping portfolios consistent with firm guidance
  • Working knowledge of private markets, including pacing, capital calls, and fund selection support
  • Experience with portfolio transition and implementation planning
  • Clear, confident communication when presenting portfolio strategy and market views to HNW/UHNW or institutional clients
  • Experience mentoring or training advisors and junior staff
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • CFA charter and/or MBA preferred;
    Series 65/66 licenses a plus
Benefits

Matter offers medical and dental plans with HSA/FSA options, employer-paid disability and life insurance, a 401(k) with employer match, and 10 paid holidays plus competitive vacation and sick leave. We also support continuing education, career growth, and community involvement.
