Responsibilities
  • Investigates offender's home, work, and social environments for circuit courts/Parole Board; collects, verifies, evaluates data; incorporates into reports and records; assesses needs/risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies to ensure effective offender management/public safety; and submits reports to designated legal authorities.
  • Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment or confinement and counsels them regarding personal/adjustment problems; attends court to receive court assignments/make reports.
  • Assists in vocational, educational, and social adjustment planning for assigned offenders; cooperates with public/private agencies and law enforcement agencies; investigates offender violations; takes appropriate action including issuance of warrants.
  • Prepares statistical reports of activities; administers/observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing; assists in special investigations/research projects/other activities; serves on committees/task forces within the Department and community; performs other related work as assigned; as employee becomes more experienced/demonstrates proficiency, levels of supervision become more general.
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Successful completion of safety training including defensive tactics and the ability to re‑qualify annually.
Qualifications
  • Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections; OR four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities;

    AND possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.
Compensation & Incentives
  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00 pm (noon) and 5:00 am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full‑time at a qualifying facility.
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

Guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
