Responsibilities- Oversee the health of all animals is County's animal shelter.
- Determine nature of and treat health conditions in animals medically and/or surgically.
- Perform spay/neuter operations as required.
- Perform euthanasia procedures as required.
- Perform necropsies on animals to determine cause of death and oversee investigations to control and prevent communicable diseases between animals and humans.
- Maintain and monitor controlled drug supply as required by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
- Prepare reports and maintain veterinary records and files for compliance with state statutes and policies.
- Adapt practices to ensure the most current approaches to animal health and welfare are implemented.
Requires licensure as a Veterinarian with the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board or a provisional Missouri license. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
Selection and AppointmentA selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant, including recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job‑related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.
The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
Additionally, new employees will have 30 calendar days, after their first day of employment, to attest to their COVID‑19 vaccination status. Instructions on how to submit this attestation will be provided once employment has begun. County employees are not required to be fully vaccinated, but those who are not fully vaccinated must submit to weekly COVID‑19 testing until they are fully vaccinated or St.
Louis County geographically reaches a 70% vaccination rate and a moderate transmission level of COVID‑19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
